At the command prompt, type the following: openssl rsa -in rsa.private -out rsa.public -pubout -outform PEM 2. The public key is saved in a file named rsa.public located in the same folder. Generating the Private Key - Linux 1. Open the Terminal. Navigate to the folder with the ListManager directory. That being said, many Git servers authenticate using SSH public keys. In order to provide a public key, each user in your system must generate one if they don’t already have one. This process is similar across all operating systems. First, you should check to make sure you don’t already have a key. Download PuTTYgen.exe and run it. Select the RSA radio button in the Parameters section near the bottom of the page. Click the Generate button. Move the mouse around in the blank area as instructed, until PuTTYgen generates the key pair. When PuTTYgen has generated the key, it replaces the blank area with a series of text boxes, including one that shows the public key.
